For a vape retailer or distributor, product assortments do not remain unchanged.
Different e-cigarette and e-liquid packages can vary in height, width and merchandising requirements. A floor-standing fixture with permanently fixed shelves therefore becomes restrictive when the customer needs to introduce new products or change the store layout.
Needed its 2-meter vape display to provide more merchandising flexibility while retaining the functions already established in previous versions.
The upgraded display needed to achieve several things at the same time:
The key engineering question became:
How can the shelves move without losing the lighting and pull-out functions already built into the vape display?
APEX upgraded the original fixed shelving structure by introducing adjustable mounting positions along the rear-side structure of the display.
This allowed shelf heights to be repositioned according to different vape product packaging and merchandising layouts.
Instead of manufacturing a completely new fixture whenever product heights changed, could continue using the same display platform and adjust the internal shelf configuration.
This makes the fixture more suitable for long-term retail programs where product assortments are frequently updated.
2. LED Lighting That Works with Adjustable Shelves
Lighting was one of the most important engineering challenges.
In a conventional display, LED lighting and wiring are often designed around fixed shelf positions. Once the shelves become adjustable, fixed electrical components can restrict movement or result in uneven illumination.
APEX therefore reconsidered the relationship between the shelf structure and lighting system.
The updated design allowed the merchandising configuration to change while preserving the illuminated display effect.
This was particularly important because previous versions of the fixture had already been optimized to direct more light toward the front of the displayed products rather than mainly illuminating the upper surface.
English
The floor-standing vape display also uses pusher-equipped shelves.
As boxed vape products are removed from the display, the pusher mechanism moves the remaining products toward the front.
This helps the display maintain a fuller and more organized appearance while reducing the need for frequent manual product repositioning.
The challenge during the adjustable shelf upgrade was therefore not simply to move the shelves—it was to keep the pusher function working together with the redesigned shelf structure.
Acrylic doors were incorporated into the 2-meter display configuration to maintain product visibility while providing a controlled merchandising area.
Throughout repeat production, the door structure remained part of the fixture platform while other components—including shelving, lighting, pushers and graphics—continued to evolve.
This modular approach allowed individual functions to be optimized without redesigning the complete display every time.
The display is approximately two meters high, which means structural stability is critical.
Earlier versions were developed with removable casters so the fixture could be repositioned when required. Front casters incorporated brakes, while the display still needed to stand independently when the wheels were removed.
This gave retailers greater flexibility in store installation without compromising the basic stability of the fixture.
For illuminated retail displays supplied to European markets, the project also considered electrical and logistics requirements.
Previous display specifications included European-compatible plugs and compliant LED-related electrical components.
Export packaging was also treated as part of the engineering process rather than an afterthought.
For volume production, shelves and major structural components could be organized separately where required, helping make large floor-standing fixtures more practical for international transportation and local handling.
Project Results
The value of this project was not simply producing another vape display rack.
Over several years, APEX helped turn the original fixture into a continuously evolving retail platform.
The development path moved from a standard floor-standing display to a system combining:
adjustable shelves + LED lighting + pusher merchandising + acrylic protection + movable installation + European electrical configuration.
Because proven structural elements could be retained while individual functions were upgraded, could respond to new product formats without restarting the entire fixture development process.
The cooperation also moved from prototype development into repeated mass production, demonstrating that the display could support ongoing retail deployment rather than a one-time promotional campaign.
The floor-standing vape display remains the core product in this case.
As our cooperation deepened, we also jointly developed countertop displays, acrylic display stands, battery displays and other retail display equipment with APEX.
These additional projects demonstrate the broader scope of the partnership, but they developed on the foundation of the same long-term working model:
prototype, test, improve, mass produce and repeat.
